Indian Railways has changed a lot with time. The kind of hi-tech trains you are seeing running on the tracks today, it was not so earlier. On the other hand, when you go further back, you will find that there was a time when there were no toilets in the train. Without toilets, trains in India used to transport passengers from one place to another, not for one or two years, but for the whole 56 years. Now the question arises that what happened after all that after 56 years the railwaymen thought of making toilets in the train. Actually, there was a letter written by a person behind it. Today in this article we will tell you the story related to the same letter.
When was the toilet made for the first time in the train
The running of the train in India started only in the year 1853. But when the train started running in the country, at that time there was no arrangement called toilet in the train. Passengers had to hold their potty until the train stopped at some station. Even in that, if the train has stopped somewhere and you got down to do potty and the train started, then there was a fear of missing the train. It was because of a similar incident that the toilet was made for the first time in 1909 in the train. Means before that for 56 years the train was running on the tracks without toilet.
Story behind making toilet in train
The date was 2 July 1909, Sahibganj Railway Division West Bengal receives a letter. This letter was written by none other than an Indian citizen, Okhil Chandra Sen. In this letter, Okhil Chandra Sen writes, I have come to Ahmedpur station by train and my stomach is swollen due to pain. When I sat on the edge of the track to defecate, in a short while the guard blew the whistle and the train started. Due to non-availability of toilets in the train, I had to run holding a pot in one hand and a dhoti in the other, and because of this I fell down. I had to feel ashamed because of this. I asked the guard to stop the train but the guard did not stop for me. Because of which I had to be ashamed. I request you to impose a heavy fine on that guard, otherwise I will tell all these things to the newspapers. It is said that after this letter, the railway department realized that the people traveling in the train had to face problems due to lack of toilets… and after this, the work of making toilets in the train was started. Went.
